Current E-mail Fraud Alert
There have been several incidents of staff and customers receiving fraudulent emails with the subject 'Important *Upgrade First Caribbean Account*'. The emails appear to be from CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank but are not. The emails claim that access to your account is about to expire and you are advised to to update your account to avoid deactivation. The link leads to a bogus website that is an exact replica of the new CIBC FirstCaribbean website - where customers are tricked into entering confidential information.
- This email is FRAUDULENT
- Be on the alert as people may be trying to take advantage of the CIBC FirstCaribbean brand change to perpetrate fraud. There have been no changes to the procedure for accessing the CIBC FirstCaribbean Internet Banking website and the Bank will never use emails to inform customers of account changes. We encourage all employees to be wary of e-mails from unknown sources and NOT to click on links or download and open suspicious files within these emails
- This means that these fake websites will capture the credentials and/or any personal information that entered by a visitor to these sites which can then be used in fraudulent activities
- It is also possible that by "clicking" on the link in these messages, recipients will cause malicious software - e.g., viruses, keystroke loggers, or other Trojan horse programs to be downloaded from the web pages onto their computers
A copy of the fraudulent email can be found below.
Please remember:
- These are fraudulent emails and the information within is FALSE
- Do not click on any links within the email or download any files or images associated with the email
- If you receive a message of this type, please report it to the Bank immediately by sending the email to our fraud mailbox at fraud@cibcfcib.com
- Attach or include any fraudulent e-mails you received or anti-virus/anti-spyware scan logs. When forwarding the suspect email to this mailbox, please do not include your personal or confidential account information
