There is an increase in compromised email accounts which use free domains, and while we have reactivated the use of free email addresses to receive One-Time Verification Codes (OTVC), we strongly recommend you take the following steps to enhance your email account security.
Use a paid email account provided by an employer and may be associated with a company domain (e.g., yourname@company.com). These accounts are more secure than a free email account
Where possible, avoid using free email accounts provided by domains such as Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc
If you must use a free email account, please ensure you enable the Two Factor authentication (2FA) on the email account on that platform
These measures are necessary to deter fraudsters from accessing your email account and private information. While we are placing banking in your hands, your account security remains our top priority, and we also want to provide some tools to help you protect yourself against fraudsters, here are a few tips:
Use Secure Wi-Fi: Avoid using public Wi-Fi for financial transactions or accessing sensitive information. Use a VPN if you need to use public Wi-Fi
Monitor your account transactions regularly for any unauthorised transactions
Report any suspicious activity immediately to fraud@cibcfcib.com, freeze your card where possible or call our Customer Care and Sales Centre
Beware of Phishing Scams: Be cautious of emails, texts, calls or QR codes that ask for personal information or direct you to suspicious websites. Verify the source before clicking any links
Secure Your Devices: Ensure your devices are updated with the latest security patches. Use strong, unique passwords and consider enabling two-factor authentication where possible
